The year is 2025...
The virus killed those with weak immune systems in 2020 and decimated the global economy. Just as life seemed to find a new post-pandemic normal, the virus mutated. Now powerful enough to conquer the strong immune systems, it wiped out cities, the government, and society as we knew it. In the power vacuum of the fallout, militia groups formed, defining new territories. Connected via a mesh network, communications (and the internet) live on, making proximity both a danger and a necessity.
Life is good for our crew of Flo, Thomas, and David as they pass the months on Thomas' solar farm. The local militia, New Union, agreed to leave them alone in exchange for the crew recharging their car batteries each week.
But everything changes when the solar grid breaks beyond repair. A message comes through the transmitter, telling of a Sanctuary that is rebuilding society. On top of that...the message says Flo's brother is alive!
Is the Sanctuary fake news? Is her brother truly alive? And, is it worth fleeing the militia into infected areas to find out?
Florence "Flo" Puckett: A journalism/ communications major before the pandemic, Flo maintains a daily journal documenting the lives of her and her two friends living on a solar farm. What began as reporting has now become her therapy.
Thomas Candamore: Son of a wealthy engineer, Thomas hoped to win his father's approval by studying engineering. However, his "trust fund baby" life never pushed him enough to become the brilliant inventor his father was. He now maintains the self-supportive compound with his friends.
David Bilson: When the hospital became overcrowded and he had to choose who lived and died, nurse David Bilson became addicted to anxiety meds. Seeing the horrors of the pandemic firsthand, David now appreciates his new life as the leader of the solar farm crew.
